designed to attract young creative couples, architecture agency coordination asia has completed china’s first wedding venue set within a museum park. named the ‘rainbow chapel’, the building is placed inside the G+ park – a glass museum in the chinese city of shanghai.

based on the notion that an art space should nourish a community, the 390 square meter chapel is enclosed with glass panels painted in vivid, yet translucent shades. the façade is made with over 3,000 individual elements that use 65 different colors, while the semi-transparent kaleidoscope windows lend the project a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

the round-shaped chapel alludes to the infinite nature of marriage

set inside a square, the round-shaped chapel alludes to the infinite nature of the connections made through marriage. the two basic shapes are fundamental to chinese symbolism, the circle representing fullness and unity, while the square stands as a symbol of honesty and virtue.

the chapel is surrounded by a water passage, which visitors must traverse before entering the site. once inside, guests encounter an elegant interior, filled with light piercing through the kaleidoscopic windows. sited next to the chapel, a 1,200 square meter banquet hall has been converted from a former industrial workshop, capable of hosting weddings, concerts and other types of celebrations.
