oriented on a lot amongst a plethora of remodels in uji city, japan, is the ‘cozy house’ by ALTS design office. faced with limited space allowance, the plan favors openness and air, avoiding fixed internal walls when possible. from outside the ‘cozy house’ maintains a neutral presence. a grey façade is interrupted only by a pair of crossed timber beams, through which guests and residents can access a covered patio and multiple entrances.

ALTS design office chose to create openings atop a small grass slope to the right of the driveway. though a small detail, the raised section can be seen from indoors to provide a bit of greenery. ‘cozy house’ is reserved, a quiet, private dwelling for its inhabitants to relax and live without worry of outside influence.
