aiming to encourage humans’ interaction with each other, as well as with nature, vietnam-based architecture studio CTA has realized a private residence for a three-generation family. located in binh duong, T-house is formed by two functional blocks, with void in-between spaces that serve as gardens and common activity areas for all six family members.

taking into the strain that the environmental crisis, along with the overpopulation, and the lack of green spaces put on vietnamese people’s mental and physical health, CTA has decided to adjust their design accordingly. in addition, the idea of close human interaction and intimate family time was also in focus when developing the project concept. ‘the client has shared that she has been afraid of being alone – she would like it if everyone in the family could easily see each other when staying at home’ the architects reveal.

as a result, the dwelling was designed as a functional, bright, and well-ventilated environment that invites residents to form closer relationships. the house features various common areas that serve as family rooms. furthermore, the living space allows vertical and horizontal interior communication, in order for the family members to be able to see each other at all times.

the project comprises two functional blocks with two void spaces in between, housing garden, and common activity areas, to ensure that all spaces are illuminated by natural light. the shape of the house follows the form of the terrain, showcasing a long western facade, divided into 8 square-angled walls. opening windows are featured in the wall cavities, along with ventilation system units, visible in the back of the garden, ensuring a healthy living environment throughout the house.

private bedrooms are divided into the two corners of the house, connected by a common living space: an open, green garden. while spaces were arranged with the main purpose of sufficient ventilation and lighting, this layout method has also created social areas, where members are encouraged to co-exist, connect and join in shared activities, while enjoying the nature. the house generates simple spaces, by using simple materials and local workers in an effort to save energy consumption, increase green space, and lower construction costs.
