tserki sculpts a cycladic patisserie

The Tserki patisserie in Paros immerses visitors in a harmonious fusion of cultural heritage, Cycladic forms, and the timeless luminosity of marble for a pastry experience inspired by the traditional aesthetic of the Greek island on which it sits. Injecting a distinct artistic inspiration to the design concepts, Saint of Athens and DVMP Architects have teamed up to create a space that transcends boundaries of time and serves delectable deserts as ephemeral artifacts in a cavernous, museum-like space. The interior is characterized by simple forms carved into pristine whitewashed plaster tiles that recall historic Parian marble sculptures, while soft fabric curtains wither from the ceiling to emulate boat sails inspired by the Aegean Sea.

With interiors designed by creative agency Saint of Athens and architecture shaped by Athens-based DMVP Architects, the new Tserki branch embodies the artisanal essence of the popular pastry brand fused with the simplicity of Cycladic forms and the ethereal nature of Greek marble. Paros’ traditional aesthetic naturally extends through throughout the space, enhanced by the whitewashed plaster surfaces that recall the island’s distinguished marble quarries notably celebrated for their pristine white, semi-transparency, and artistic heritage.

Drawing on this, the space is conceived as a museum-like backdrop for the presentation of the confectionaries, with the design team further likening historic Parian marble sculptures to the creative craft of pastry making. ‘The place feels like a giant work of sculpted art, interrupted only bu elegant displays for the pastries, and paired with a small dividing wall that hosts white amphoras in a modern take,’ notes Nikolaos Palaiologos of Saint of Athens.

Moreover, the Cycladic light and the surrounding Aegean Sea are together encapsulated to create a soft-white atmosphere with a luminous radiance reminiscent of how light penetrates marble. This effect is achieved by enclosing the patisserie in a cavernous interior with white walls built from sculpted tiles positioned to let light in and softly reflect it around. Flowing cloths are also delicately hung from the ceiling to recall flowing boat sails, rooting the structure in its context.
