dani serrano unveils ‘camper house’ along pacific coast

Crafted from teak wood and assembled with metal joints, Dani Serrano’s Camper House is a construction that integrates a caravan to create a vacation housing module. After traveling along the Pacific Coast in search of the perfect waves, this campervan was installed on a rural surfer village in Nicaragua and transformed into a light and nature infused home. Shaped from minimal and primitive construction using just a radial arm saw and a drill, the cabin seeks to explore the essentials for a magical holiday shelter within a small budget; an experimental building that explores the romance of what is not needed in a house.’

sliding partitions opens the home up to the landscape

Notably, architect Dani Serrano has completed the construction with a teak and fabric partition system that slides along a track, enabling the front living space to visually dissolve into the natural panorama. This mechanism ensures privacy when needed, while also allowing occupants to embrace the outdoors and engage with the environment that engulfs them.

Along the opposing facade, the window coverings appear as simple wooden panels that are operated by ropes and pulleys. Overarching the wooden frame is a gently pitched, corrugated steel roof that provides protection from the rain while still enabling fresh air and natural light to infiltrate the home. When sealed up after dark, the Camper House is illuminated from within with hanging paper lanterns, causing the structure to appear to glow like a lantern itself from the outside.
