david chipperfield is slated to design the marrakech museum for photography and visual arts. set to house lens-based and traditional fine art, the building is sited adjacent to the 12th c menara gardens, the connective tissue between the atlas mountains and the old walled city, and aims to create a temporal link between the historical cultural output and 21st century art practices.  understanding ideas penned by susan sonata, the museum is set to house the  best of moroccan and and north african art objects as a reframed type of mementoo mori, a testament to mortality, vulnerability, mutability of the human condition.

  • this is absolutely exquisite – misleadingly simple at first glance, the spatial, fenestral, and light layering is spectacular and the plans are sheer eloquence
