david chipperfield architects has been selected as the competition winner to build the extension for the kunsthaus zürich. the extension plan will be formally presented on december 15 at the kunsthaus zürich. unlike other high profile architecture competitions, this one was held completely anonymously. all 20 projects submitted will be on public view from december 16, 2008 to 11 january 2009 at the kunsthaus. chippefield’s plan is slated for completion in 2015. the jury selected chipperfield’s proposal because it ‘meets the complex demands of town planners and architects while also offering a functionally persuasive solution’. it also fulfilled their criteria of creating a ‘vision of a museum for the 21st century’.
