an exhibition documenting the work of david chipperfield architects (DCA) will go on display in vicenza, italy in may 2018. the presentation, which will examine ‘the important role that architectural culture plays in the history and identity of the city’, display 16 current and recent projects by the practice at varying stages in their development. ‘this exhibition represents our attempt to show how we work, how we develop ideas, how we work in parallel in different projects, cultures, and with different resources, priorities and collaborators, balancing local and global perspectives,’ says david chipperfield.

designboom is excited to collaborate on this occasion by live-streaming a lecture with david chipperfield. italian historian of architecture, francesco dal co, will introduce the lecture which will be hosted at the teatro olimpico in vicenza on saturday may 12th from 11am – 12:30pm, and streamed live on designboom’s facebook.

exposing the range of activities that take place within a contemporary architecture studio, the presentation of each of the 16 projects is led by DCA’s respective design teams in london, berlin, milan, and shanghai. the exhibit will therefore reveal the processes of designing and creating architecture in order to better understand the values that unify an international body of work. ‘as a practice, we have strived to maintain a studio mentality despite the scale of the overall studio, and despite the diversity and range of our projects,’ chipperfield continues.

while the emphasis is on active work, an introductory overview of key buildings completed since the practice was founded in 1985 provides a further context in which to examine the projects on display. commissioned by the city of vicenza, in collaboration with the cultural association abacoarchitettura, the exhibition will take place from may 12, to september 2, 2018 at the basilica palladiana. the event marks the return of contemporary architecture exhibitions to the salone superiore, which was closed for extensive restoration 12 years ago.
