david tajchman proposes private residence on the rocks with curved, aerodynamic form

architect david tajchman has unveiled his proposal for on the rocks,  a private residence whose form draws from the aerodynamism and curves of the client’s car. located on a cliff of an undisclosed location, with views towards the mediterranean sea, the house ‘disappears’ within the existing nature, while only an ‘infinite body of water on its rooftop’ remains visible from the street, mimicking the ripples of the nearby sea.

‘located 30 minutes away from a local airport, the journey that precedes the arrival to the house is part of our design,’ explains tajchman. ‘we propose a journey by car from the plane to the house, discovering slowly the various landscapes, the sea, the rocks and finally the house and its beautiful site.’ the residence’s roof extends towards the north, creating a shaded car-port and integrating the clients’ car into the design, while leaving it outside. inside, the kitchen window is shaped according to the car silhouette, framing it from the inner living spaces. activities within the house unroll on the inclined ground of the rocky site, while floor to ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the bay in front.

‘this project showing a “topology”, a mathematical “endless” figure, follows our mixed-use high-rise gran mediterraneo, from which the clients asked us to develop the topological formation at the scale of a private house, introducing new ideas related to the site and to the clients’ specific requests,’ the architect adds.
