deepspot opens in poland, now world's deepest diving pool with depth of 45 meters

the deepest diving pool in the world ‘deepspot’ opens in the polish town of mszczonów, less than 30 miles south of warsaw. while ‘deep diving’ generally suggests an underwater depth of 30 meters, deepspot’s pool reaches a depth of 45 meters, nearly 150 feet! it will overtake the Y-40 diving pool in italy by 5 meters (over 16 feet) and the belgian nemo 33 by 12 meters (almost 40 feet). intended as a training and practice site, the team at deepspot welcomes divers of all levels. beginners can try diving for the first time or join their first course, while certified divers can enjoy deepspot diving or retraining courses to hone their skills.

deepspot is currently the deepest diving pool in the world. the impressive undertaking calls for a total of 8,000 cubic meters (2,113,376 gallons) of water to fill the pool, which is 27 times more than a standard 25-meter pool. the project features a series of underwater cave environments with a ‘blue hole’ leading downward to its deepest basin. divers are invited to explore other environments including a small shipwreck and simulated mayan ruins. for those not yet ready for a dive, an underwater tunnel immerses adventurous viewers, surrounded by divers suspended in the great volume of water. the complex offers a collection of alternative programming, including conference and training rooms, and even hotel rooms with an underwater view at a depth of 5 meters (over 16 feet). the complex’s construction cost an estimated $10.6 million and took over two years.

deepspot diving pool is developed by aerotunel, a company known for its indoor skydiving units. the pool was created for enthusiasts of scuba diving or freediving who seek the comfort of warm, clean water and safe conditions for their training. while deepspot now holds the title of deepest diving pool, the question is for how long? great britain is currently developing its blue abyss diving pool which will boast a record depth of 50 meters. at the launch of deepspot, polish diving instructor przemyslaw kacprzak comments to AFP: ‘there are no magnificent fish or coral reefs here, so it is no substitute for the sea. but it is definitely a good place to learn and to train in order to dive safely in open water.’
