elevated two meters above a typical greek high-rise, this proposed urban hut allows its occupants to contemplate the city from a different viewpoint. designed by panos dragonas and varvara christopoulou, the cabin – which provides only nine square meters of floor space – has been conceived in response to mass globalization and the world’s ever-increasing urbanization.

‘during the 21st century, there are no remote locations‘, explain the design team. ‘the planet has been explored and digitally mapped in every latitude and longitude. the media and social networks bring the public sphere in every corner of the world. more than ever, the post-modernist subject remains trapped between the real space of megacities and the digital world of computer networks.‘

a typical ‘hut’ is commonly imagined as a small residential structure, firmly rooted within its remote location. offering an urban alternative, this new city structure offers views of an artificial landscape, consisting of antennas, solar panels and insulation materials. internally, the cabin provides the minimum equipment that is required for temporary escapes and contemplation, while a large glazed façade presents views across the rooftops of the greek capital.
