in åland, like many scandinavian cities, the sauna is one of the main social functions of the home. london-based collaborative studio denizen works have designed a mobile sauna for the cold nordic climate. after an unsuccessful attempt at obtaining a building permission for a sauna, the designers fulfilled the client’s wishes and began construction.

the construction budget was a mere £3k

denizen works‘ mobile dw sauna was built on runners to allow the structure to be towed onto the frozen shores for a refreshing plunge into the icy waters during the winter months. the sauna was built by the designers using local materials, including the internal cladding that was bought 12 years ago when the client first applied for planning permission. the construction budget was a mere £3k, and measures 6 sqm.
