as part of réinventer paris — an initiative aimed at developing ‘innovative urban projects’ within the french capital — lina ghotmeh of DGT architects has been chosen to complete a timber-clad tower in the city’s 13th arrondissement. named ‘réalimenter masséna’, the scheme is situated on the site of a former railway station, one of 23 locations chosen for development by paris mayor anne hidalgo.

the project promotes a sustainable agricultural cycle, serving as a platform for advanced research through art and culture. across the tower’s various levels, ramps form a transversal link connecting a host of amenities and attractions. the development is topped with a roof garden that allows the planting of vegetables, while educational workshops enable users to share and learn new ecological methods. an interactive canteen sells food and drink obtained from local sources, with a market that allows vendors to distribute the organic produce.

the development also includes residential accommodation with housing units on offer for chefs, artists, and researchers. located within the tower, many of these private dwellings feature integrated vegetation that spreads across a series of balconies and terraces. other on-site cultural facilities include a street art gallery and a flexible ‘black box’ space designed to host a variety of events and seminars.
