diller scofidio + renfro chosen for united states olympic museum

new york-based studio diller scofidio + renfro has been selected ahead of a number of other established firms to design the united states olympic museum in downtown colorado springs. as reported in local press, DS+R will work alongside local architects anderson mason dale in completing the $60 million project, with a scheduled opening date planned for 2017. the scheme, which will be the only comprehensive olympic and paralympic museum in the united states, comprises a hall of fame, an interactive theater, a 20,000 square foot exhibition hall and a public plaza. despite early renderings shown by the project’s backers, the museum’s design is now a blank slate with new images of the complex to be revealed in mid-2015.
