winning first prize in a competition to design beijiao’s new sports center, local architect DUO decode urbanism office‘s proposal departs from the
traditional archetype of athletic facilities and suggests a more optimized structure better integrated into the urban fabric. the design decentralizes
the sports venue, creating various nodes of differing heights suitable for each individual event. by treating each activity as a unit, it is easier to activate
or deactivate unused spaces and cut down on infrastructural and energetic waste. the modules are connected by bands of an inhabitable green roof
structure that converge into a visual central valley that serves as an outdoor lobby with two levels – a ‘three-dimensional park’. circulation is free to
traverse the complex through its many gaps, strengthening the building’s relationship to its urban context and integrating with the metropolitan
landscape rather than acting as a standalone component placed within it. different parts of the exterior are suitable throughout the year, with an
outdoor amphitheater ideal for summer events and covered functions for retreat from intense sun or unfavorable weather conditions.
