EASA students craft dreamdune installation in nida

part of the 2016 european architecture students assemby (EASA) which took place in nida, lithuania during the summer. a group of students from different countries worked together to create the an undulating seating installation crafted from wood.

titled ‘dreamdune‘, the project is led by tutors: eoin mccooey, roibeárd ó máinín and dobrin petkov. the cross laminated timber structure is an abstraction of the formation of a sand dune over a period of time. the organic form blends subtly into its environment and at the same time, is a nod to the importance of the local forestry which holds protects the sand dunes in nida.

dreamdune responds to its different uses by its morphing form. a series of social gathering spaces have been divided by the positive and negative dimensions, and simultaneously captures the movement through the sand dune. the outer positive face acts as a timber amphitheater to sit, play and gaze at the surrounding greenery. underneath, in the negative plane, two seating booths sit diagonally opposed within the form, providing a more private social function and its orientation aimed towards two distinct views across the dunes.
