edit! merges two bar concepts into one with 'tayēr | elementary' project in london

influenced by bartender alex kratěna’s vision, prague-based studio edit! has designed the ‘tayēr | elementary’ bar in london, UK. the project is an unconventional combination of two different concepts, brought together in one space. elementary, as the name suggests, is based on the simple idea of an all-day open bar with drinks, coffee, and a range of smaller meals. on the other hand,  tayēr offers a variety of cocktail and dining options, which adapt according to seasonally available ingredients.

at first, the commercial unit on the ground floor of an administrative building on london’s old street didn’t seem to fit the vision of the client, so edit! had to figure out how to make the given premises work with the concept. however, eventually, the area turned out to be ideal and the only thing to solve was how to interconnect both spaces into one unit, without one overshadowing the other. the selected solution allows the raw concrete skeleton construction to penetrate the entire space, which is visually divided into two autonomous parts by a profiled concrete screen.

the elementary bar is situated in the front, opening to the street through a glass facade, while tayēr is hidden in the rear, generating a more intimate environment. the identity of both spaces is enhanced by the use of two shades of wood veneers. an important element for the functionality of the project is the unique gastro-technology, tailored to the client’s needs by the norwegian company ‘behind bars agency’. the modular shelving system, as well as the wall cabinets, create sufficient and convenient storage space within the facility. in the back side of the bar, following the inner atrium of the building, there is a community table made of solid wood intended for professional trainings and workshops.
