einszu33 develops aesop store with historical references to leipzig

as aesop continues to expand their branches across the globe, the design of their store interiors differ depending on their location. this has seen locally-based architects and designers being commissioned to translate their retail language to reflect their design-focused approach to complement their array of uniformly branded products. in leipzig, the city known for its culture of print, music and the arts, aesop opened their first in the german city.

designed by munich-based studio einszu33, the dark green interior draws cues from the city’s past. the 95 sqm space hints at the aesthetics, context and subtle meanings inherent in the prefabricated designs that shaped much of the past german democratic republic. the dated and vintage nature provides a background to introduce contemporary elements. a home-like aesthetic is brought to the interior with the brown sofa, long table and low-lighting.

the interior features green and grey-hued walls that are lined with shelving composed of powder-coated metal and translucent glass tiles. this industrial character references leipzig’s history and in warm contrast, the countertops have been crafted in oiled plywood. this is seen in the main sales counter which has been centrally positioned, anchoring the space and offering an ideal vantage from which to welcome visitors.
