located near the chilean coastal resort of concón, this two storey residence has been designed for a client who wanted a better quality of life outside the hectic nature of the city. completed by emA arquitectos, ‘GB house’ is situated in a protected natural area surrounded by dunes and wetland. having worked on a number of weekend houses in the region, the design team decided to apply an iteration of the same structural system. along with the family home’s traditional program, the client also required a small office with independent access.

the hilltop house is oriented towards a series of steep gorges

oriented towards a series of steep gorges, the dwelling takes on a brooding presence — clad with painted black timber and rusted steel. the house’s hilltop setting, along with the distribution of the living areas, allows social space to be positioned at the edge of the site, offering sweeping views of the pacific ocean. primary accommodation is found at ground level, with an open plan lounge spilling out onto a sheltered terrace to the southwest. the independent study is placed at the opposite end of the plot with a separate entrance. the property’s three bedrooms are all contained at the upper storey, alongside a reading room located at the top of the stairway. see here for more work by emA arquitectos on designboom.
