erich prödl associates and HpSA ZT rework styrian farmhouse in austria

reworked by erich prödl associates and hammerschmid, pachl, seebacher – architekten, this existing farmhouse is in north of graz, austria, in a small village at sea level of around 700 metres. in former years, the building consisting of four different structures was used for farming and as a residence for farmers.

the main theme of erich prödl associates and hammerschmid, pachl, seebacher – architekten‘s project is to conserve the charm of the peaceful courtyard whilst replacing the northern side of the building. dating back to the 1960s, this part of the house has not been characterized by outstanding qualities.

to match the requirements of the client who primarily asked for a weekend and holiday retreat, the architects have decided to link the old historic part of the house to the new structure. this approach creates opposing atmospheres, like the simple farmer`s dining room with low ceiling hights contrasting the bright library and veranda in the second floor.
