rotterdam’s inholland university has added an extension designed by erick van egeraat, boasting over 15,000 square feet. the new space allows the school to accommodate its rapid growth with all new study areas, classrooms, offices and commercial space. van egeraat also created the school’s new masterplan and landscape design in addition to the extension. the addition has three interconnecting parts: a nine level building linked by bridge to a student apartment building and a higher volume cantilevered from the bridge building. the architects played with finishes and textures, finishing each volume in a different material. some facades feature screen-printed patterns on glass, while another building has horizontal louvers. the vertical height of the building overlaps many of the university functions on a small footprint and enhances the school’s corporate image.
