FC barcelona shortlists BIG, ricardo bofill + populous for camp nou remodeling

catalonian football club FC barcelona has announced a list of eight teams competing to remodel the team’s historic camp nou stadium. a host of big names are among the shortlisted entries, including bjarke ingels group, ricardo bofill’s taller d’arquitectura and arena specialists populous. plans involve adding a larger roof canopy and expanding the venue’s capacity to a total of 105,000 spectators, cementing its status as the biggest club stadium in the world. construction work is expected to begin in 2017, with completion scheduled for 2021. the full list of teams is listed below:

simultaneously, the club has also announced the shortlist for the redevelopment of the neighboring basketball and handball arena — the ‘palau blaugrana’. the selected studios are as follows:

both sets of finalists will now receive all necessary technical information before submitting their proposals at the end of the calendar year.
