estudio BaBO: CLF houses

argentina-based practice estudio BaBO has created ‘CFL houses’, three identical single family residences positioned amidst a wooded landscape in ville la angostura, within the neuguén province of argentina. the complex consists of offset rectangular dwellings, broken up by voids and protrusions as they explore site lines through the interior spaces. although the series of staggered structures are interconnected, the inhabitants maintain a sense of privacy with strategically framed views. the veranda also acts as middle ground, linking the outdoors with the inside through an intermediary open air space. a dominant feature of the plan arrangement, it serves as both a boundary and a visual link between the different rooms.

continuing the essence of the void and staggered forms, the roofs are offset, as they mirror each other in opposing directions to produce vaulted ceilings in the upper level bedrooms. the facades dark stained lumber cladding fuses with the surrounding trees, while the interior material palette is comprised of an opposing light wood. plywood ceilings give subtle texture and visual interest while the smooth finish of flooring, doors and frames contrast it below.

  • excellent plan(s)

    dbkii says:
  • this is indeed an excellent project. unfortunatly we don’t know where north is, which is THE important factor in housing typologies – but the pictures at least proof that sunlight reaches the small courts.
simple functional patterns in plans combined in perspective to a rich spatial experience. love it

  • Rather troubled by the entrance off of the half garage – obscure and dark.
