estudio MMX organizes CRA house in mexico as a rotated cross

estudio MMX presents the ‘CRA house’, a dwelling set within a residential country club in avándaro, méxico. the design team, required to work within the parameters set by the neighborhood, makes use of a specific set of materials and geometries. the regulations seek to preserve the mountainous nature of the region through architecture. working with these constraints, the house introduces a stylistic hybridization, with the dual purpose of giving continuity to the character of the whole, while at the same time articulating, in an alternative way, the different spaces and the program of the house.

the design team at estudio MMX organizes ‘CRA house’ by rotating the footprint, orienting views toward the garden and golf course. by rotating the limits and the perimeter walls of the house, diagonal landscape spaces are created, articulating the closed and semi-enclosed spaces. rather than articulating the boundary of the site with an impassable fence, the angle corrects the conventional edge relationship with closed and semi-enclosed spaces, always in relation to the open space garden space beyond.

with its design, estudio MMX curates an homage to the existing landscape, touching the existing plot in the least invasive way possible. toward the upper level of the house, rooms are arranged around a central space for efficient distribution and collection of solar energy. leading toward observation platforms, these rooms serve as a visual connection toward the different views of the forest. the four spaces housed under the roof and wooden structure allow for the accommodation of an entire family in each of the rooms, taking advantage of the generous heights, with mezzanines.
