gensler completes etsy’s vibrant headquarters in brooklyn
blurring the lines between workplace and habitat, each of the nine floors is designed to be a balanced eco-system to reflect the online marketplace's philosophy of craft and sustainability.
gensler has completed the etsy global headquarters located in brooklyn, new york. the expansive 200,000 sq feet space offers the employees of the online marketplace with a varied and diverse work environment pronounced in color, greenery and eclectic decoration.

the project by gensler took three years to complete. the celebration of the art of making is a constant theme throughout and resonates with the vibrant interiors. the etsy philosophy of sustainability and craft is portrayed as a narrative journey and focuses on embracing nature, capitalizing on eco-friendly, authentic and locally sourced materials.
the reimagined headquarters is decorated with handmade and micro-manufactured furniture made by local artists and etsy sellers; all of which sticks to their philosophy. spread across nine floors, the scheme is on track to become one of the largest living building challenge petal-certified projects in the world. gensler reused and re-appropriated objects and materials wherever possible.
each level has been imagined as a balanced ecosystem and almost all levels feature a kitchen where workers are encouraged to recycle. in addition to the diverse spaces available for individual work, group presentations and meetings, the top level has been left as a roof terrace and is installed with solar panels.
a rainwater storage system collects rainwater from our roof, stores it in a 3,400 gallon tank
LED lighting is installed throughout the space, using up to 30% less energy than fluorescent bulbs
local makers fabricated 50 percent of the furnishings for the 200,000 square foot space
