exhibition plaza by kuanlu architects is made to be walked upon

the ‘exhibition plaza’ sits atop a massive 40,000m² in the mongolian grasslands of northern china. four various subjects are explored in the center — history, culture, industry, and urban planning — and is meant to be the landmark of the growing city. kuanlu architects, designers of the proposal, wanted to create a scheme that merges structure and site into one continuous flow.

street façade 

local geography and mongolian culture were considered and applied within the design; of which can be visualized in the façade and roof structure. the entire building can be walked upon both internally and externally. alternatively using stone and grass, the roof becomes a natural promenade that extends to all areas of the monolithic plaza. every fifth stair, there is a belt of window, which collectively flood the interior with natural light. ‘exhibition plaza’ is awaiting construction.
