YSH House harmonizes with the landscape of Semarang

YSH House, designed by Wiyoga Nurdiansyah Architects, is nestled within an aging residential enclave in Semarang, Central Java. Positioned adjacent to the parents’ gable-roofed home, the design embraces a modern aesthetic, prioritizing a west-facing mass with key openings oriented towards the north-south axis. The slim massing, distanced from neighboring walls on both sides, fosters optimal air circulation throughout, enhancing natural ventilation. The ground floor encompasses essential spaces such as a carport, guest bedroom, terrace, living, dining, kitchen, and service area, all overlooking an inner court garden for ample sunlight and ventilation. Ascending to the second level, a ramp adorned with skylights creates a dramatic spatial experience. The living room, albeit modest in size, features lofty ceilings, imparting a sense of expansiveness and seamlessly integrating with the upper floor.

Wiyoga Nurdiansyah Explores an Interplay of Materials

The second level hosts the main bedroom, workspace, and music room, interconnected by a corridor accentuated with wooden grating for a lightweight appearance. Dynamic mezzanine spaces are sculpted within the facade, adding intrigue to the music room. Exposed concrete and brick serve as primary materials, anchoring the design with their raw aesthetic. Terrazzo, teak wood, and ironwood flooring contribute to the tactile richness of the interiors, while expansive aluminum slide and hide windows in the dining area extend the living space seamlessly. YSH House by Wiyoga Nurdiansyah Architects emerges as a harmonious amalgamation of contrasting elements, skillfully unified through contemporary architectural expressions and nuanced detailing.
