singapore based practice FARM and point architects collaborated to propose the ‘indian heritage centre’ located within the little india historical district in singapore. the exterior appearance and interior experience integrates the energy, dynamism, cultures, religions, landscapes, food, colors, sounds and smells of the country and citizens of india. building layers clad with diverse materials of national relevance are stacked irregularly culminating with a covering of lush green vegetation. the shifting profile widens with each successive layer, gradually extending over the street.

upon entering the lobby, escalators brings visitors to the highest level galleries amidst the vegetation and circulate downward through the building’s exhibitions. visible from distant points of the urban context, the garden establishes a strong visual presence within the district and similarly offers a sweeping view of the area from the elevated garden.
