paris based practice fassio-viaud architects has created ‘paul bailliart cultural center’, a multi-purpose venue for musical dominance and live performance in massy, france. the structure, originally built in 1969,  recently underwent an expansion and restoration that looks to create a strong public space and visual identity that is line with the activities taking place within the building.

housing two theaters and a range of binary spaces, the redesign combines a contemporary aesthetic with functionality. jagged and solid in its massing, the structure features a permeable structure that is constant flux, changing in its appearance as the viewer moves around the volume. light and motion further alter the perception of space and aesthetic as they exit through the negative space between each wooden slat.
