felipe rodrigues has completed the ‘moenda house’, a 20,000 square meter home in são paulo, brazil. with around 70% of the surrounding land occupied by protected virgin forest, the plot is at the highest point of the development, with a panoramic view of the horizon. the home is divided into a two interconnected blocks: one houses the owner’s living quarters while the other is intended as a guest home.

the main block houses the sitting room, TV room and kitchen, as well as the terraces. felipe rodrigues’ design integrates cantilevered terraces with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors which create wide open spaces with free ventilation and draw the landscape into the home. at the upper level of the home, a small studio and terrace with a wooden deck featuring an infinity pool faces the surrounding forest. the guest house features additional bedrooms and a dining area.

the elongated concrete facade allows the home to appear slotted within the sloped site, blending into the lush setting. the cantilevered concrete further contributes to the sensation of ‘floating architecture’. the use of concrete screens to block out circulation further contributes to ventilation and free-flowing natural light throughout the home.
