fieldevo completes concrete house in taiwan with curved walls + courtyards

fieldevo design studio has built the IN/house in tainan city, taiwan, as a way of implementing the practice of meditation into everyday life. though clad in an almost blank concrete façade at the front, the residence comprises a series of courtyards that establish a constant relationship with the exterior environment through all glass partitions, while curved walls allow for a smooth spatial flow between its different spaces.

reconsidering the typical housing floor plan layout of ‘three bedrooms and two living rooms’, fieldevo design studio has instead based the design of the IN/house on a ‘three yards and two entrances’ layout, to achieve a smooth spatial transition of living and meditation areas within the building. the single-story house incorporates three distinct yards: a dooryard, a courtyard, and a backyard, all of which help fill the house with natural light and wind. at the same time, two entrances, one towards the living spaces, and one towards a zen area built for sensory perceptual experiences, are built to contribute to the meditative spatial experience.fieldevo completes concrete house in taiwan with curved walls + courtyards

within the residence, the architects have fused all tangible living spaces with a spiritual, meditative atmosphere in order to allow human senses to appreciate the simplest spatial forms. the concrete, glass, and wooden interior is complete with minimal furnishings and no television or couch to emphasize the meditation aspect of the project. its curved walls create a visually relaxing atmosphere, while effortlessly ushering residents from one space to the next.fieldevo completes concrete house in taiwan with curved walls + courtyardsfieldevo completes concrete house in taiwan with curved walls + courtyards
