foster + partners plans connected towers in shenzhen to showcase drone technology

foster + partners has unveiled plans for a pair of towers in shenzhen, which would serve as the new headquarters for a leading robotics company. the complex contains research and development spaces alongside offices and other public functions. the towers are connected by a sky bridge, a dramatic aspect of the scheme that will help the company showcase its drone technology.

developed for DJI, a major chinese technology company, foster + partners’ design is currently under construction in shenzhen. the buildings’ floors are arranged in floating volumes cantilevered from central cores by large steel megatrusses. this creates large, column-free spaces including quadruple-height drone flight testing labs. meanwhile, a public exhibition gallery is found at ground level, alongside a theater for product launches.

conceived as a ‘creative community in the sky’, staff facilities include state-of-the-art gymnasiums and robot fighting rings. ‘our aim is to create a unique workplace environment that embodies the spirit of invention and innovation that has allowed DJI to lead the world in robotics and technology,’ says grant brooker, head of studio at foster + partners.

  • I wonder if anyone at Foster + Partners has ever worked for hours in an office where the roof is clear glass?
Lobby – nice looking in pictures, not so practical in real life.
