following a successful urban design approval, the design for the new headquarters of the goldsun group by foster + partners in taipei has been revealed. as part of the nangang urban regeneration project, the proposed structure introduces a new mixed-used typology to the area by replacing the existing goldsun factory with a mid-rise building that generates new connections with the surrounding urban fabric.

for taipei’s goldsun HQ, foster + partners has unveiled a complex that contains office spaces alongside residential and retail areas. these spaces are arranged around a flexible central courtyard which translates into an outdoor event space that forms the social heart of the project — as the buildings are lifted off the ground, the courtyard creates a diagonal route through the site, connecting a new park to the northeast with the green area across the street to the southwest.

one of the most important features of the project is nature, which plays a key role throughout the different areas of the building. sky gardens located on various levels throughout the complex offer a variety of social spaces for the public and office employees to enjoy. they also result in naturally lit and ventilated spaces throughout the buildings. with rooftop photovoltaic panels and other sustainable measures, the project targets a LEED gold rating.

‘it has been a wonderful challenge working with our client to transform this existing industrial site into a unique contemporary urban complex – combining workplace, retail and living spaces around a series of tree-filled courtyards,’ comments grant brooker, head of studio, foster + partners. ‘we hope that it will be a vibrant new social focus that will bring life to the area and form the centrepiece of its regeneration.’
