foster+partners reveal masterplan for new omani city

foster+partners revealed their masterplan for the a new compact city west of oman’s capital
of muscat called ‘al madina al zarqa’. the new city is being designed to provide a
contemporary development inspired by traditional omani architecture for around 200,000
residents. the city is optimized to take advantage of its waterfront location. the buildings are
grouped into individual neighborhoods that each maintain a unique identity. the construction
of the buildings will use naturally sourced materials and traditional passive technologies,
making them inherently sustainable.
