an exhibition highlighting the work of japanese architect fumihiko maki has opened in yokohama, japan. on view at BankART temporary until december 27, 2020, the display features a great selection of scale models completed by the pritzker laureate’s firm — maki and associates. the exhibition shines a light on the architect’s great range of projects around the world, from 4WTC in new york city to the shenzhen sea world culture and arts center in china.

in particular, the exhibition features projects that maki and associates has realized in japan, including the public convenience completed as part of the ‘tokyo toilet’ initiative. the exhibit also places great emphasis on maki’s work in the city of yokohama, japan’s second largest city. one of these projects is the ‘yokohama city hall’, which was completed in 2020. the high-rise tower, shown in the form of models, is characterized by its striking verticality and environmentally responsive white façade.
