building upon their lineage of easily deployable structures made from shipping containers, the hong kong and australia based business G-pod has developed the self-sufficient and transportable home ‘dwell’. the pod employs a combination of patented pull-out sections and a large fold-down deck to offer three times the amount of usable space. the design is focused on environmentally conscious living, and operates off power grids and water mains. a large curving photovoltaic array functions to produce energy for the unit, while also shading the volume and thus reducing thermal gains.

among the basic framework of the ‘dwell’ structure, various schemes have been designed to allow for different living arrangements. the basic layout is set up as a studio apartment, but variations allow for one or two bedroom units, disaster relief shelters, ensuite bedrooms, or motel/hostel accommodations.

G-pod has designed a similar structure, titled ‘pop’, for use as a transportable retail unit. it utilizes the same overall transformable strategies and energy systems, while differing in interior fit out.
