sher maker unveils moonler furniture showroom

Sher Maker pays tribute to local craftsmanship with its Chamchuri wood factory showroom in Chiang Mai. In collaboration with local furniture factory Moonler, Sher Maker celebrates the beauty of raw materiality and traditional regional design to spotlight the brand’s products and processes.

The firm’s design maintains sensitivity to its encompassing natural environment, while adopting a traditional architectural typology recalling Thai longhouses fused with the visual language of a pavilion to embody the furniture brand’s traditional values.

embracing traditional northern thai craftsmanship

The northern region of Thailand is home to many highly skilled wood artisans, crafting refined products from local natural elements. Moonler, a specialist in contemporary furniture design works from the local area of Doi Saket district, Chiang Mai, crafting stools, tables, benches, and more from Chamchuri wood. Teaming up with Thai architecture office Sher Maker, the duo honor the traditions and creations of the region.

Embracing the thoughtful production processes and beauty of their finishes, Sher Maker’s Moonler showroom design resolves two intentions. First, the design concept seeks to blend the factory architecture with the rural landscape. The structure reveals itself as a narrow long form topped by a simple gable roof, connecting with the entrance court which adopts the visual typology of a pavilion, and linking to the rice field terrace.

Secondly, a symbolic and material tribute to the factory’s craftsmen is woven throughout the factory. All wooden columns and beams weave through the space to define a traditional yet minimalist interior, while echoing the contemporary Chamchuri wood furniture pieces. Further, all structural finishings and joinery recall Moonler’s furniture construction processes, standing in ‘powerful silence as Moonler’s philosophy.’
