RMDM architectes has completed a major renovation in the former nursing school of saint antoine hospital in paris, france. with this recent intervention, the structure now accommodates two new nurseries, while adding a series of mezzanine areas, as well as an extension of approximately 50 m2. through the redesign of these spaces, the architects tried to provide the children with the means to awaken to the world that surrounds them.

in order to minimize costly structural interventions, RMDM architectes adapted the program to the physiognomy of the building. meanwhile, the team has also redesigned the vertical circulation in order to obtain a clear and consistent operation within the interior. the reception units are distributed on either side of this circulation, thus benefiting from the double exposure.

the ground floor allocates the main entrance level of the building, where reception, general operation and administration areas. the garden on one level with the motor space is in direct connection with the toddler unit, accessible from the vertical circulation core in order to be used independently by the means units & big ones. we opted for a simple and readable architectural writing, sober, playful and comfortable, at the same time, the units of these two nurseries are intuitively understandable for children.
