highly energy-efficient building D by ACPV redefines workspaces

ACPV ARCHITECTURE Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel redefine workspace providing to employees’ personal and professional needs in the new 20,000 sqm office building D in Symbiosis business district in Milan. Operating under the principles of social sustainability, the highly energy-efficient building interacts with existing buildings and green public areas in its surroundings. The volume comprises two superimposed masses displaying a four-story cantilever over Via Orobia, and a nine-story department arranging office spaces, and commercial functions on the ground floor. The building’s materiality and patterns alternating between glass and solid concrete and metal elements recall the features of the adjacent Fastweb Headquarters, while the street level’s green areas and water surfaces merge with Piazza Olivetti.

flexible layout facilitates agile and healthy office environments

The green outdoor garden located on the roof of the shorter volume offers space for light physical exercise or casual gatherings between the employees. The new building’s flexible layout facilitates agile work processes, fostering interaction through collaborative workspaces and seamlessly connecting colleagues working on-site or from home. The optimized use of workspace allows the building to absorb new functions that diversify how people experience the office environment. Through the kitchenette, the gym, the resting areas, and hotel rooms employees can access all essential facilities without needing to leave the premises.

Building D, designed for European investment and development company Covivio, hosts large international firms and companies. The well-awarded project has obtained LEED Platinum and WELL Bronze certifications for focusing on users’ well-being, indoor comfort, and energy-efficient design guaranteeing lower carbon emissions. Reaching a major milestone with the completion of Building D and Symbiosis masterplan, the leading duo of ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel envisions an accessible new district, following a polycentric and pedestrian-friendly model of sustainable urban development.
