all-glass swimming pool filters sunlight within spacious penthouse renovation in brazil
exposed concrete walls, wooden slab partitions, and a distinctive steel staircase complete the interior.
within the upscale itaim neighborhood, in sao paulo, brazil, architects rogério gurgel and caio d’alfonso have completed the renovation of a spacious penthouse, seeking to provide a more gracious and efficient living environment. the refurbishment focuses on a series of essential layout modifications, with new materials and furniture providing a sophisticated overall look. a steel staircase and an all-glass rooftop swimming pool serve as the core elements of the interior, making for a unique, distinctive design.

the revamp by rogério gurgel and caio d’alfonso rearranges the interior in order to ensure both a stylish and comfortable space for the occupants. colors, materials and textures were picked and placed carefully to compose a harmonious interior with interesting visual details. the newly designed steel staircase integrates seamlessly with the kitchen’s brushed granite countertop, and the articulation between these two pieces becomes a sculptural focal point for the living room.

meanwhile, a rhythmic tauari wooden panel envelops the bedroom area, giving unity and visually organizing the space. the wood strips contrast beautifully with the cement floors and slabs, giving warmth to the apartment’s main access. the main suite features a leather headboard and a green velvet armchair — warm hues that bring comfort to the otherwise all-concrete environment. in the bathroom, a spa-like grey limestone monolith complements the relaxing monotone atmosphere. the living room on the first floor, closer to the main suite, serves as a large TV room with a modular couch, where the residents can spend their leisure hours.

the all-glass swimming pool upstairs, with its structure visible downstairs, filters the light in a soft way, while instigating the visitor’s curiosity about the upper floor. the furniture in neutral tones and the rug in different shades of green all reinforce the surprising atmosphere under the pool. in the upper floor, the lavatory is highlighted, with its extravagant red rosso lepanto marble counter, custom-made in a floating steel structure designed by rogério gurgel and caio d’alfonso themselves.

outside, the luscious landscape was designed by leticia bonomi, with a huge vertical garden right by the pool, while comfortable furniture complements the space. the outdoor countertop in brazilian basalt works as a cooking area with several appliances, making this rooftop an ideal space for gazing at the city’s skyline.
