gnocchi+danesi architects' modular mountain refuge can be located anywhere

expressing a contemporary influence from the traditional cabin typology, gnocchi+danesi architects presents its ‘mountain refuge.’ with the minimal timber dwelling, the design team introduces a space in which human’s origins, and a connection with nature and history can be relived. the cabin is proposed as a wooden structure realized as two modules, covering a total floor area of twenty four square meters. the team proposes the option to include an additional module of twelve square meters, thus reaching a total size of up to thirty six square meters. the adaptable construction allows for programmatic flexibility as the module does not require any specific foundation work.

gnocchi+danesi architects designs the mountain refuge as a modular system which can be sited along the landscape using prefabricated elements. no poured-concrete is required, although in locations with more extreme conditions the team suggests at least a thin concrete slab. the interiors are finished with an exposed plywood, while exterior plywood is coated with black pine tar, lending the dark, warm look together with water-proofing. the front facade of the mountain refuge is expressed with a wide glass panel, opening up the tiny space to invite the landscape inside.

while the ‘mountain refuge’ is designed to be sited anywhere, the team at gnocchi+danesi architects comments: ‘we are currently in contact with two contractors in the us that will be able to deliver in the whole country. we are also on the move for new zealand, europe and australia. we are a tiny-house startup!‘
