genoa based studio, gosplan, has completed a minimal yet charming apartment renovation in the picturesque town of camogli on the italian riviera. the project takes design cues from regional architecture by incorporating a large entrance room – or vestibule. positioned within the center of the house and without windows, this space serves as the relational core of the apartment and leads to the other rooms.

gosplan‘s recent intervention focuses on a simple yet effective floor plan. the ceremonial function of the vestibule is further emphasized by the bespoke furniture system which clads the room. the symmetrical furniture design introduces simple geometries that work together with the plaster ornaments on the ceiling and the flower theme of the terrazzo flooring.

when entering the vestibule from the staircase of the apartment block, residents can see the five pink doors integrated into the furniture design, while opposite, a sliding door reveals the study room and brings natural light inside. through this wide opening, the vestibule and the studio can merge into a unique space. furthermore, it’s also possible to close the study and convert it into a guest room by fixing the tailor made desk to the furniture shutters and pulling out a wall bed.

the furniture in the vestibule, the study and the kitchen is totally bespoke. the large and sunny living room, overlooking the mediterranean sea, is the result of the merging of two different rooms. since they maintained the original ceilings and terrazzo floorings of the two rooms, gosplan created a unique space that is still clearly divided into two areas: living and dining.
