it has been announced that six independent teams have been chosen to present plans for the development of oslo’s new government quarter. the design groups, which include snøhetta and BIG, were selected from 24 original entries and will determine potential solutions regarding urban policies and public engagement. the project will be developed alongside organizers statsbygg, the norwegian government’s key adviser in construction and property affairs. the six teams are listed in full below:

LPO / arkitekt kristine jensens tegnestue / norconsult
snøhetta

BIG (bjarke ingels group)
asplan viak
MVRDV

unlike a regular design competition, where an outright winner is selected, the process is conceived as a ‘parallel assignment’ where each proposal will be thoroughly evaluated, and ideas from each entry incorporated as part of the eventual masterplan. in addition, each of the six suppliers will work alongside students from the oslo school of architecture and design, meaning that students’ work will be brought into the overall planning process. consultant teams will deliver their proposals in march 2015.
