Casa en Dénia Merges with Mediterranean Landscape

Casa en Dénia, designed by Quadrat Estudio and Contell Martínez, is positioned between the Montgó natural park and the beach of Dénia, in Alicante, Spain, emerging as a structure that deeply integrates with its natural surroundings. Built with locally sourced materials and minimal cladding, the residence aims to achieve a timeless, enduring presence.

The house’s design is informed by its Mediterranean setting and orientation on the site. Located towards the north of the plot, the building allows a south-facing garden to receive ample sunlight. Open to controlled views of both the garden and Montgó, this southern exposure also optimizes solar heat gains. Two porches extend the interior space outward, allowing use throughout the year, each oriented to suit seasonal climate conditions. The design arranges the house’s volumes to create privacy and frame distant views, blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.

Quadrat Estudio employs austere natural material palette

A sunken courtyard provides natural light and ventilation to the basement level, setting it apart as an ideal space for a study space. The collaborative team between Quadrat Estudio and Contell Martínez ensures spatial flexibility, natural lighting, cross ventilation, and thoughtful orientation, throughout the structure, contributing to a balanced and sustainable living environment. Casa en Dénia embodies responsible architecture with careful attention to resource efficiency, environmental integration, and a simple, effective construction approach—offering a living space that harmonizes architecture and its natural context through an austere material palette and a functional design solution.
