conceived as a ‘little hotel floating in the seto inland sea’, guntû is a luxury ship that offers up to 38 guests japanese inn-style accommodation. departing from and returning to the bella vista marina in onomichi city, the floating hotel transports passengers along the region’s chugoku and shikoku coastlines. the boat is topped with a roof that blends with both the natural landscape and the titanium roofs of the buildings along the coast, as well as a silver hull that changes appearance depending on the sea’s color.

in total, guntû contains 19 passenger cabins, all of which have ocean view and terraces. private accommodation, which ranges in size from 50 to 95 square meters (538-1,022 sqf), all feature timber interiors where passengers can relax barefoot. cabins start at 400,000 yen (approx. $3,670 USD) per night for two guests. available food includes seasonal specialties from the setouchi area, as well as western cuisine, sushi, and sweets.

the boat, which was designed by architect yasushi horibe, also features a wide range of on-board facilities including an observation deck, a lounge, a gym, a treatment room, a communal bath, and a sauna. dining areas comprise a tearoom, a cocktail bar/café, a sushi bar, and a char-grill counter. available activities include costal walks and fishing excursions. the ship provides four routes with 2- and 3-night stays available in both east and west directions. see guntû’s website for more information.
