paris-based firm hamonic + masson & associés has unveiled plans for a twisting residential tower to built in the french port city of le havre. the videcoq project, which will contain a total of 70 apartments, is located in close proximity to ‘le volcan’ — the cultural complex designed by oscar niemeyer — and overlooks the bassin du roy as well as the town center. strategically situated, the project seeks to serve as a link between the city and the sea.

‘benefiting from great visibility and exceptional views overlooking the docks, the building offers varied scales for neighboring local residents and a diversity of spaces for the inhabitants,’ explains hamonic + masson & associés. ‘the project plays with the idea of movement, background and multiplicity. its volume works alongside the differing scales, creating a sculpted fan effect where the concrete netting wraps around the building’s body accentuating the transforming, rising twist.’

internally, the free floor plan allows for maximum flexibility, with future residents able to determine their own configurations. ’embracing the future with ambition, the building will be demonstrative of vertical housing in the urban environment,’ continues the design team. hamonic + masson won the competition to complete the scheme, which also includes a crèche and parking facilities, in 2017. no completion date has yet been forecast, however construction is on track to get underway soon.
