head architecture is the winner of the thematic design for the 2009 east asian games venue, making them responsible for dealing with the thematic concepts of the hong kong stadium, western park sports centre and hong kong coliseum. to be held in hong kong this december, the firm has developed a graphical installation within the high traffic areas outside the coliseum. five large ring-shaped structures, making reference to the olympic rings, appear as if they are funneling down into the ground, and will serve as covered outdoor areas of public seating.

the games’ emblem takes fireworks as its theme, so large graphic patterns of the exploding lights, in large bold colors will be projected on the exterior of the coliseum as well as on the underside of the stadium’s canopy during pre-match, half-time and post-match times. graphic patterns of fireworks will also appear on the surfaces of the car park and inside the sports centre embracing the spirit of games.
