heatherwick studio in new york city
engulfing new york’s high line at 515 west 18th street, heatherwick studio‘s lantern house is now complete and welcoming residents. while the project marks the team’s first residential building in north america, the sculptural architecture by heatherwick is certainly well known to new yorkers — the lantern house with its distinctive facade now stands with the little island in the hudson river and the vessel at hudson yards. see detailed images of the lobby here along with early interior visualizations here.
to celebrate its completion, the team releases the latest images of the lantern house, noting also that it is ‘one of the best selling projects of 2021,’ and that with 181 luxury residences, it has recently passed 55% sold.

lantern house: the dynamic facade
the architects at london-based heatherwick studio defines its lantern house by its distinctive, modular facade. taking influence from the neighborhood’s industrial and maritime warehouses, the lantern-like bay windows are paired with grey brickwork with industrial metal detailing while the luxury interiors are curated by march and white design. overall, the new building is divided between two towers, one 10-stories and the other 21-stories, connected by a sculptural glass lobby — dubbed a ‘secret garden’ — beneath the high line. the garden is expressed with sculptural curves and thoughtful landscaping by hollander design.
