following last year’s toboggan tree, hungarian studio hello wood in collaboration with design terminal and the hungarian interchurch aid unveils the ‘christmas tree without the glitter’ out of 5,000 sectional cuts of firewood logs. the tree is located in one of budapest’s central squares, standing 11 meters high and 4.5 meters wide, and weighs 150 quintals (15,000 kg). this year’s tree focuses on the act of caring for one another, as such it will be dismantled piece by piece after the twelfth day of display and will be donated to families in need to share the gift of warmth for the holiday season. the stacking of the timber sectional cuts creates an artistic wooden facade lit by peripheral spot lights that blanket the tree in a colorful sheen. the inside contains a more private sacred-like space offering a small contemplative escape from the urban city life. the project was executed over a period of 5 days working around the clock with the help of skilled carpenters.
