chinese practice HHD_FUN has recently completed the ‘lanqiao clubhouse’ on the edge of the two kilometer stretch of shanhaitian beach, between the ocean and a fifty year old black pine forest. to preserve the natural habitat, the long span steel framework was erected closer to the sea with a low-profile wave-like footprint that grows out of the sand. parametric design techniques were used throughout the  development of the project, from the shape of the structure to the nature of the skin, taking special care to make sure that each efficiently designed piece could be made by a local low technology manufacturer. the building contains a cafe, saunas and an outdoor swimming pool within an area of 1150 square meters under a green roof that extends the landscape.
